The idea and inspiration for the Rustworthy collection began with a bucket of old, rusted decoy weights that I found one day behind my dad’s barn. I immediately knew that these simple objects had a story to tell. They had been used by my dad, an avid duck hunter, and my granddad, a decoy carver, for many years. Their rust and wear on them isn’t a sign of overlooked neglect but rather a badge given to things used for their purpose. They whisper of the legacy of those who loved and appreciated the life enjoyed by generations here in northeastern North Carolina. The textures and colors found in each piece of this collection were inspired by the well-worn grooves, green patinas, and red oxides found in these treasures. My prayer is that this collection inspires you to hear the many stories and see the abundant beauty in the simple ordinary things.
